The local Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness (USARA) is offering online support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Peer Recovery Coach, Mersades Morgan about what USARA has to offer.

“We have recently opened up a Recovery Community Center here in Price, it’s on Main Street. It is a place where you can utilize resources to find recovery, to progress forward in recovery, to find whatever pathway works for you individually and the world is changing so we’re having to find different ways to utilize different resources right now,” said Morgan. There are several virtual/online recovery meetings taking place like In the Rooms which is mostly 12-step, Unity Recovery which is all pathways, Recovery Dharma, SMART Recovery, LifeRing and Coffee & Recovery.

“So Coffee and Recovery has been one of our biggest meetings people love it, we love it, it’s a great way to get connected. We have accessed that through different virtual hubs, you know we use Zoom, we use Go To Meetings; so if you have an email, you have a phone, they are really easily accessible,” said Morgan. Right now, between the different recovery community centers throughout the state, USARA is offering over 11 different groups all of which can be accessed through the USARA website at www.myusara.com

The different recovery pathways that are offered through USARA are unlimited so there is sure to be a group that suits the needs of the individual. “Like I said before everybody’s substance use disorder looks different, so everybody’s recovery looks different so what we’re really trying to do is just say, hey in this time of craziness where you know you are having to isolate, you are having to quarantine and social distance we can still stay connected to one another because that is the biggest part of finding sobriety and finding recovery is a connection,” explained Morgan. The non-profit organization hopes by offering virtual/online meetings to individuals that it will help keep those in recovery and assist those seeking recovery.
