As of last month, a new Police Chief has been hired in Helper City and although he is new to the position, his family has been a part of the community for decades. Chris Gigliotti was hired after former Police Chief Trent Anderson retired.

Chief Gigliotti is very familiar with the area as he spent quality time with his grandparents in Helper. “My grandparents have lived here for, actually my family has been here for over 100 years – business owners, and what have you. I spent my summers down here as a child with them and I came down 24 years ago with my two children to raise them,” said Chief Gigliotti. His family is well known in the area as they owned a gas station and hotel at the mouth of the canyon years ago, plus the community pond is named after his grandfather.

He comes to the position with many years of experience as he worked for the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office for many years before taking a position at Tooele County Sheriff’s Office, before returning to Helper to work for the city. He explains his plans, now that he’s at the helm, “Like you said Chief Anderson did a great job and for the most part we’ll stay the course, as you said. If we can get fully staffed, we may, you know take a look at some other things and the mayor wants to make it a more community-oriented department and more events involving the community and the police.” He is looking forward to bringing his knowledge to the department and working with the city council while protecting the community.

One thing that you may have noticed since Chief Gigliotti’s arrival is that the Helper City Police Department is regularly communicating with the community via their Facebook page. “A lot of times people think they just see us on the side of the road or sitting in our cars and think we don’t do a whole heck of a lot but there is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes. So, we’re trying to provide them with a little glimpse of that,” said Chief Gigliotti. To learn more about what is taking place at the Helper City Police Department visit their Facebook page.
