The Green River Pirates will play host to the Pinnacle Panthers Wednesday afternoon as both schools open the 1A baseball season at Green River High School.

The two teams, who are both under the watch of first year managers, will participate in a double-header to begin the season and region play. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 3:00 p.m.. The second game is scheduled to follow at 5:00.

Pinnacle will return several key contributors to this year’s team, including an experienced pitching core featuring Stetson Motte, Riley Smith, Mikey Vigil and McGuire Kocks.

In 2019 the Panthers ended the season with a 6-17 record and finished 1-1 in the 1A State Championship Tournament. Taking over the lead of the Pinnacle baseball program is coach Ray Jones Jr.

Green River will look to build off of 2019 where the team opened the 1A State Tournament with a 12-2 over Bryce Valley.

Devan Meadows is entering his first year as coach of the Green River baseball program. TJ Hughes will serve as coach Meadows’ assistant.

Wednesday’s opener will be the first of four meetings this season between the two teams. The second doubleheader will take place on Friday, Sept. 4 at Pinnacle.
