It’s time for school to start for children in the Castle Country area which means an increase in traffic in the mornings and late afternoons. Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood took time on his weekly update to remind citizens about back to school safety and being a good neighbor.

“Yea it’s been a little awhile and they’re getting ready to kick back off and it’s coming up on the 19th so there will be kids standing around on the sides of the road for the morning school bus and the afternoon drop off, I just want to make people aware,” said Sheriff Wood. Drivers should be alert when approaching bus stop areas, exercise patience on the roads and be conscious of special speed limits when traveling through school zones.

The Carbon County Sheriff’s is doing their part in preparing for students to go back to school as Sheriff Wood explains, “We’re identifying those areas that we believe that will have the highest volume of foot traffic and motoring, the motoring public as well, and so we’re looking for those areas. We’ve been doing some radar stuff to kind of get an idea of which areas are commonly, easy to speed in, so we’re moving our little speed trailer right now.” The speed trailer alerts drivers of their speed in that particular area and the findings will assist law enforcement to know whether or not they need to beef up patrols in that area.

Problems with neighbors, while social distancing has been a huge factor in complaints the Sheriff’s Office, has been receiving. “With this COVID stuff, the main complaints that we’ve had is speeders, kids riding ATV/UTV and dirt bikes, and neighbors’ pets. I kind of attribute that to being sheltered in place a lot, being home a lot and a little bit pent up, so to speak, and less tolerant of their neighbor than they normally would be and now’s the time more than ever, to have good neighbors, you have to be a good neighbor,” stated Sheriff Wood. It’s not a bad idea to show a bit of patience and courtesy with one another during this difficult time we are all facing.
