The Carbon Dinos protected their home course with a first place finish in the fourth Region 12 meet of the season Thursday afternoon at the Carbon Country Club Golf Course.

Rebounding from last week’s disappointing finish, the Dinos recorded a team score of 327, defeating second place Richfield by 10-strokes. Grand ended in third at 342, followed by South Sevier’s 359. Emery and San Juan rounded out the field of six.

Sophomore Bode Salas topped all golfers as he shot an outstanding 66 to lead Carbon. Richfield’s Keaton Anderson was second on the individual leaderboard with a 77, followed by Grand’s Rage Saunders and his 78.

Fellow Carbon sophomore Daron Garner was second on the team with an 86. Branden Scovill fired an 87 and Kyler Clark registered the fourth score with an 88.

Carbon entered Thursday’s meet trailing Richfield by 31-strokes for first place in the division. While the Dinos remain in second place, the deficit has now been cut to 21-strokes with four meets remaining in the regular season.

All teams in the region will next travel to the Cove View Course on Wednesday, with South Sevier designated as the host school. Also the homesite for Richfield, the Dinos ended second with a team score of 322 back on Aug. 18.
