The Carbon Dinos welcomed in nine other schools for the annual Carbon Invitational cross country meet Wednesday afternoon.

Competing against 10 schools on the boy’s side of the competition, the Emery Spartans finished in second place as they accumulated 84 points. Payson dominated the field with a team score of 34 points. Richfield, Union and Carbon rounded out the top five.

Jess Christiansen was the top performer from Emery, leading his team with a third-place finish and a time of 16:21. Bryar Meccariello ended right behind in fourth after finishing in 16:21.

Merrit Meccariello landed a top-20 finish for the Spartans as he ended 18th with a time of 17:45. Beau Cook came in 29th and Zach Wolford was 30th.

The Carbon Dinos were led by Kobe Cruz who finished 10th overall with a time of 16:54. Easton Humes produced the second top-15 score as he came in 13th.

The final three scores for Carbon were Nathan Engar in 28th place, followed by top-35 performances from Pierce Bryner and Boyd Bradford.

On the girl’s side of the competition it was Payson that took home first place, topping Carbon by 14 points. Union, Richfield and Uintah rounded out the top five in the field of eight. The Emery Lady Spartans finished sixth.

Ambree Jones was the highest finisher for Carbon as she crossed the finish line in 21:10 for fourth. Sophia Taylor finished in seventh, just slightly ahead of teammate Erin Stromness. Lillian Seeley and Gracie Tatton both ended in the top 25.

Adaley Lester was the top placing Lady Spartan as she delivered a fifth place finish with a time of 21:34. Kallee Cook was the next Emery participant to cross the line as she ended in 14th at 22:50. Daicee Ungerman, Bethany Justice and Kadrianne Bird all ended in the top 45 to round out the Emery scoring.

Only three meets remain on the season before the State Championship meet in mid-October. Next for Carbon will be the UIAAA Invitational in Spanish Fork on Friday. Emery will next compete on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Timpview.
