Needing a win to keep pace at the top of the Region 12 standings, the Emery Lady Spartans defeated the Grand Red Devils 3-1 Thursday afternoon in Castle Dale.

Looking to rebound from Tuesday’s loss to Carbon, the Lady Spartans were dominate out of the gate holding a 2-1 lead at the end of the first half. Defensively Emery remained on point in the second half as they prevented Grand from scoring in the eventual win.

Alexis Winter, Kaydee Sermon and Sydney Stilson all scored one goal for Emery, as they finished off a season-series sweep of Grand.

Now 5-1 in Region 12 play, only four games remain on the regular slate for the Lady Spartans. Currently Emery is locked in a three-way tie with both Carbon and Richfield for the top spot in Region 12.

Emery remains No. 10 in the current RPI rankings following Thursday’s win. Both Carbon and Richfield remain No. 6 and No. 7 respectively.

The Lady Spartans will continue the season on Tuesday with a home contest against the South Sevier Rams. Emery won the first meeting back on Sept. 3 by a final score of 6-0.
