The Green River Pirates completed the 2020 season with a 1-1 mark in the 1A State Championship Saturday afternoon in Spanish Fork.

Despite finishing 0-17 during the regular season, the Pirates entered the State Tournament as the No. 14 seed.

Delivering the highest offensive output of the season, Green River cruised past No. 11 Manila 17-5 Friday afternoon. The win placed the Pirates in the second round against No. 6 Wayne.

Saturday’s contest served as the third meeting of the season between the two teams. Unable to recover from a slow start, Green River suffered a 12-2 season ending defeat.

Ending the season 1-18 overall the Pirates showed massive improvement in the final weekend of the season. The win over Manila is currently the only upset to occur so far in the state tournament.

The 1A State Tournament will continue Tuesday as the top eight seeds remain. The State Championship game will take place on Saturday, Oct. 10.
