The Emery Spartans soccer squad faced the Grantsville Cowboys on the road on Wednesday, opening their playoff run. Unfortunately the Spartans couldn’t match the Cowboys scoring, falling 8-0.

The Spartans came out in the first half allowing the Cowboys to score three goals. The second half was more of the same with Grantsville adding five more while holding Emery scoreless.

For Grantsville, McKenzie Allen found the back of the net three times while Whitney Wangsgard added five goals. Adalyn Enslen protected the shutout with six saves and also collected her sixth shutout of the season.

The Spartan’s season ends with a 9-8 overall record and an 8-2 Region 12 record, which gave them a second place finish in conference.

Opening the season losing five of their first six, Emery found a way to change course ending the season winning eight of their last ten and climbing to No. 10 to close out the season. The difference for them was the region match ups splitting the season series with Richfield and Carbon two teams that finished in the top ten in RPI as well. And as they look forward to next season they will lose six seniors to graduation and will welcome back a line-up of underclassmen that should undoubtedly be ready to go once more.
