Frederick James Halverson, 89, passed from this mortal earth on Sunday October 18, 2020 with his sweet wife and family by his side.

Fred was born in Helper, Utah to Jesse Alphonso Halverson and Isabella Wallace on January 8, 1931. He grew up in Helper, attended Carbon High School and graduated from Carbon College with an Associate’s Degree. Married Judith Ann Farish on March 30, 1957 and they had six children together. Although he lived in Price for much of his adult life, he loved Helper and considered that his home.  He was a proud member of the Helper Merchants baseball team where he earned the nickname of “Stretch,” due to the fact that he was 6’2”, thin as a rail, and could stretch anywhere to catch a ball.

Dad was a veteran of the Korean War.  Fred was an avid sportsman and for many years traveled to different locations in Southeastern Utah to referee football and basketball games.  He inherited the love of reading from his mother at an early age and became a learned historian because of his constant reading.  Fred could answer any questions about history at the drop of a hat.  Dad was his happiest when he had a book in his hand, which was always.  Fred ran Price Trading Company Sporting Goods for many years, and retired as the Carbon County Assessor in 1996.  He loved his children and grandchildren dearly, and we loved him.

Fred is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Pam Durrant, (Price), David (Cindy, Price), and Caryn Martines (Payson); grandchildren, Donny (Rashelle) Durrant, Jillian (Casey) Vuksinick, Chastity Durrant, Tia (Travis) Durrant, Scott Halverson, Derek Halverson, Hollie (Kamron) Atwood, Morganne (Brian) Martines Bennett, McKenzie Martines, Miranda Martines, and Saylor Martines; great-grandchildren, Payton, Addyson, Shaylee, Kashley, Kylie, Haylee, Jazlyn, Lucas, Rowan, Ofelia, and Isadora.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jesse Junior; son, Theodore; infant twin sons, Jeffrey and Jesse; and son-in-law, Donnie Durrant.

The family wishes to thank Symbii Home Health, especially Rick Stockburger and Sam for their kind and gentle care of our father.
