The Carbon Lady Dinos capped off a brilliant regular season with a dominating straight-sets victory over the South Sevier Rams Tuesday night in Monroe.

Led by Emma Christensen’s game-high 18 kills, Carbon earned the season series sweep over South Sevier and 11th win over the last 12 games.

Locked in a tight battle throughout the first set, Carbon emerged with a 26-24 win. The next two sets would be won comfortably, taking the second 25-15 and the third 25-16.

Senior Katie Jones logged a team best 25 digs, while Reagan Smuin and Christensen contributed 14 and 13 respectively. Makenna Blanc ended with three kills, three blocks and two assists.

Tuesday’s win moves Carbon’s final regular season record to 20-4, including an 8-2 mark in Region 12. While the Lady Dinos end second in the divisional standings, they will most certainly have an advantage over their region opponents when the final RPI is released Wednesday morning.

Carbon accumulated the best overall record in Region 12, despite suffering losses to Richfield and Grand. Only two of the team’s four losses came against 3A opponents during the regular season and all four were on the road or at a neutral site.

The opening round of the 3A State Tournament will take place Saturday afternoon in the single elimination tournament. The final eight teams remaining following Saturday’s first two rounds will then advance to the quarterfinals at the Sevier Valley Center on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
