The Carbon Dinos entered day two of the 3A State Championship Tournament in Richfield knowing the task set out before them, beat Morgan and you are in the finals. And after an epic five set match the Dinos would fall just short of that goal losing 3-2 to the Trojans.

Carbon came out in the first set claiming the edge 25-23. The next two sets, though extremely competitive were both taken by Morgan 25-21 and 25-23 setting up for what would be an incredible duel in the fourth set that would go back and forth with Carbon eventually coming out on top 30-28. The fifth and final set started out like it would be another barn burner but Morgan proved to be too much for the Dinos taking it and the match 15-9.

Makenna Blanc led the way for Carbon with 44 assists in the contest. Emma Christensen tallied 32 kills while Katie Jones added 28 digs.

The loss would send the Dinos in to the consolation bracket for third or fourth place against the South Summit Wildcats. South Summit entered the tournament at the No. 5 spot out of Region 13. Carbon had faced South Summit at the Sevier Valley Tournament on October 9th where the Dinos came out on top in straight sets.

South Summit had defeated Richfield on Tuesday evening 3-1 to advance on day two to face the No.1 team in the tournament Union, in the back and forth battle they fell to the Cougars 3-2.

The Wildcats jumped out early taking the first set 25-15. The next two sets were more closely contested but South Summit claimed both 25-22 and 25-23.

Katie Jones was tops for the Dinos in this match with 28 digs, Makenna Blanc added 27 assists and Emma Christensen grabbed 17 kills in the match.

Carbon finishes the season with an overall record of 22-6 and in 4th place in 3A. Next season will have a different look for the Dinos as they will say goodbye to five seniors Christensen, Jones and Blanc as well as Reagan Smuin and Kayla Lee will move on to graduation. Underclassmen such as Janzie Jensen who finished the season No.6 overall in the state with 90 blocks, Lyndee Mower and Sydney Orth will start the season with one thing in mind, a state title.
