The USU-Extension 4-H programs are a great way for kids to learn hands-on skills through the various programs that the organization offers. 4-H Coordinator, DeLayna Barr stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about the upcoming classes that will be available to join.

“First, we are doing our Horse Club. We started Horse Club probably January of last year, then we had to be down for a while, now we’ve got it going again. So parents are invited to this meeting if you have an interest of being in the Horse Club it’s going to be November 4 at 7:00 pm at our USU 4-H Classroom. We’re going to have games and prizes and we’ve got a fun young leader,” said Barr. This is a great chance for parents and children to meet the leader and learn more details about the Horse Club.

Another great club that’s being organized is the Debate Club which is open to ages 10 to 18 years old. “Our leader is Emily Sanders, she competed on a national level and she wants to teach these kids how to debate and get their point across. So they’ll actually get to meet in the Commissioner Chambers so that’s really exciting to let these kids know that they can make a difference. So that is starting November 9 and that going to run from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, and she just wanted to kind of have a first meeting to see who’s interested,” explained Barr. The Commissioner Chambers is located upstairs of the Carbon County Administration Building.

The next new club is the Sixth Grade Club that is full of great activities for members. “They’re going to do so many fun things from tie-dying to soda pop lamps, anything that they want to do, we’re really letting the sixth graders go at it and just have their own club, and this is also parent lead. We’ve got some great parents that are going to be in charge of this and they’ll make things that they can enter into the fair and just learn new talent,” stated Barr. This club will meet once a month and the cost is only $35.00 for a year’s worth of projects.

The 4-H program is taking the necessary precautions when classes are being held when it comes COVID. “We had to write a plan, and we stick to that plan. We can have 10 in our classroom, and we wear masks, and we have everything pre-packaged so it’s just safe and sanitized. Everyone has been so great about keeping the rules,” said Barr.
