high-school-2-2

The Carbon School District weekly update shines the spotlight on Carbon High School this week so Castle Country Radio had the opportunity to sit down with Carbon High School Principal Chris Winfree to talk about the construction that is taking place at the school.

“With the bond construction going on, they started about mid-July, and this crew is amazing. They are flying through the construction at a rate that we didn’t expect at all and so we are way ahead of schedule is what they’re telling us right now and so if you go up to Carbon High School pretty much every day, you’re going to see major changes going on,” stated Principal Winfree. As of right now that main structure for the new addition in the patio area is up and built with steel beams set and the roof is on so they are getting ready to put up walls.

“Right now, they’re anticipating we could potentially be moving into that section of the building before school gets out this year. Then just this week we had some discussion about construction inside the building starting ahead of schedule. We anticipated maybe by the summer they will be making some changes with some of the classrooms inside the building and now they’re saying they can get to those things maybe as early as Christmas break,” explained Winfree. This is really exciting for the school as this was anticipated to be a two-year project and its moving along quite swiftly that the majority of the work could be done by the start of next school year.

The construction will allow for more classroom space that is much needed at the school. “So they’re adding in the new section of the building four full classrooms, a computer lab, and then five smaller broadcast classrooms allowing more students to take broadcast classes from USU/USU-E so we can really ramp up the offerings that we have for college for students who want to take concurrent enrollment. That’s just in the new building plus when they move the media center that’s going to create six additional classrooms in the media center,” stated Winfee. Right now, if all goes as planned with construction this will allow for the school to bring all classrooms currently located outside in modular classrooms indoors and under one roof.

Construction has taken up some of the parking area as they are working and this could possibly get more hectic as construction moves forward. “It’s going to make things a little bit difficult but if we can be uncomfortable for a few months, they can crank through this project and we can be ready to go. That’s really the most exciting part,” said Principal Winfree.
