Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Robert James Howard, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 12, 2020 at his home in Carbonville, Utah.

James was born June 29, 1932 in Huntington, Utah to Florence Mae Douglas and Robert Harvey Howard. His father passed away when James was only 12 years old and Florence later remarried to Sylvester (Slim) Carter who raised James as his own.  On August 30, 1952, James married the love of his life Beverly Ann Whimpey in Cleveland, Utah at the same home that Beverly was born in.

James was a lifelong resident of Carbonville, Utah where he served as the watermaster for several years.  James wore many hats including rancher/farmer, coal miner and mechanic. Throughout his life James spent his days building dirt bikes for his two sons and making sure his girls had horses to ride. After retirement he spent his days building racecars for his son and grandson. He loved traveling to the different tracks and being the ‘crew chief’ for them.  He enjoyed the many birthday’s and barbeques that were celebrated at his home with all of his many family and friends. James was very patriotic and served in the Korean War where he was a tech sergeant and was discharged with honors.

He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Ann Howard (Carbonville); daughters Caroline (Tom) Barrington, Carbonville, Robin Benson, Bristol CT, Tina (Bob) Price, Price; sons Robert “Tuffy” (Les) Howard, Carbonville, Harvey Howard, Carbonville; brother-in-law Wayne (Trixie) Whimpey, Kirkland NM; half-brother Doug (Karlene) Carter, Carbonville; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; baby sister; Dennis Benson, son-in-law; Elizabeth Barrington, granddaughter; Pete Howard, brother; Darlene Howard, sister-in-law; Bob Whimpey, brother; Dovelene (Fred) Basso, sister; Aleeyah Bell, great granddaughter.

Funeral services, Tuesday, November 17, 2020, 10:00 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home Monday evening from 4:00-6:00 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Huntington City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
