Carbon Caring for Kids is preparing for a long school holiday weekend with the Thanksgiving Break coming up and they are in need of donations. Coordinator, Marcie Loveless took time to come into Castle Country Radio to talk about the “Meal Kits” for the holiday break.

“So the kits for Thanksgiving, I make a list of items that will go into each kit, so basically you are sponsoring for one child. You can sign up for as many kits as your family wants to do. So Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break are the three weekends that we put together a huge kit for the long week,” said Loveless. Most of the Thanksgiving kits are accounted for with the exception of 24 kits as of November 16. Once Carbon Caring for Kids gets all the kits prepared and distributed for the Thanksgiving break, they will begin gathering items for the Christmas break which is two weeks long.

All items put into the kits are “child friendly” which makes it easy for the youngsters to prepare themselves.  “There’s microwavable Chef Boy Ardee for the younger kids, for dinners, there are Ramen Noodle dinners for the older kids. There’s tuna and crackers for lunches, they’ll get a whole loaf of bread that Price Chapel donated all the bread. Fruit, there will be fresh fruit, there will be carrots, cereal, and Gossner shelf-stable milk, fruit cups, and Go-Go Squeezes, and snacks, just a little bit of everything for every meal for those five days,” explained Loveless. These same food items will go into the Christmas and Spring Break kits as well.

If you would like to sponsor a meal kit for a child you can contact Carbon Caring for Kids on Facebook to sign up. “Everything that we do is based off a Facebook I update it. Especially now I am updating it almost every single day of just updates of what we are doing, how many kits we need, and what the community can do to help in the process,” said Loveless. Carbon Caring for Kids also accepts monetary donations if you are unable to sponsor and prepare a kit.
