The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is making disposal of real Christmas trees super easy again this year by offering a recycle station from December 25 through January 10.

“The Division of Wildlife is accepting people’s live Christmas trees after the holidays when they don’t know what to do with them. Instead of just throwing them in the trash or leaving them in the yard to wilt, we encourage people to bring them on over to our office in Price or to the Desert Lake parking lot if you’re out in Emery County. We gather up all these Christmas trees that aren’t being used anymore and we utilize them for upland game habitat out at Desert Lake,” said Conservation Outreach Manager, Aaron Bott. The trees have been delivered and set up in areas such as Desert Lake and Gordon Creek in years past.

There is a variety of species that the recycled Christmas trees will benefit. “Out at Desert Lake we plant a lot of pheasants, we have some chukars, we’ve got some grouse, it’s just a really good local area that supports a lot of wetland species as well. Those old trees as they start to break down and deteriorate, they just provide really good habitat and shelter for some of those species,” said Bott. The DWR Biologists will go and stick the Christmas trees where they need to go in order to provide habitat and shelter for numerous critters.

There will be a dump trailer located just north of the DWR office building on 319 North Carbonville Road where disposal of Christmas trees will be gathered.  Any questions about recycling your tree please call the DWR office in Price at (435) 613-3707.
