As the holidays arrive and the year is slowly coming to an end Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Price City Mayor Michael Kourianos to talk about the city’s highlights for the year.

I think many citizens would agree that one of the attractions that was nice to see come together was the empty lot on the corner of 100 North and 300 East. “One of the projects that we were able to accomplish was with Utah Power & Light Credit Union they put together this community garden and the partnership is with Utah State University Eastern, and with Price City, the hospital, also Rocky Mountain Power. We put together this garden and basically, it was the members of Utah Power & Light Credit Union doing this. They paid for that park and we are just maintaining, it’s a community garden to grow the vegetation for our community,” said Mayor Kourianos. This was a great accomplishment for the city council to see a group of agencies come together for the betterment of the city.

Another great project that many were thrilled to see come together was the city’s Pump and Jump Park that is near the city’s Dino-Mine Park. “There’s a council member, Terry Willis that wrote the grant and put her vision together with Mark Jespersen, but that pump park, that bike pump park in unique. As you talk with those that go there its not just pumping up and down a hill, it’s the motion, your body motion and it’s a workout. If you are an active cyclist that’s another level of working out on a bike,” said Mayor Kourianos. This attraction has been opened since July and is always filled with cyclists of all ages.

One more attraction that many were excited to see installed was the wayfinding signs around the city. “Those wayfinding signs are Greg Dart, Bret Cammans, Amy Jespersen, Terry Willis. They are coming together weekly and coming up with ideas trying to make our community a college community,” said Mayor Kourianos. The group is working with other college communities to get ideas of what works for them to possibly implement those ideas to Price City.

There have been many folks that have been a part of changing the community and bringing great ideas to the city. This includes new businesses opening up along Main Street, the Halloween Scarecrow project and the Christmas Tree Regalia. “These different activities, it brought people out of their homes so they’re not isolated; they could walk on Main Street, they could drive past Main Street. That’s what this is all about, that’s what is exciting to me is that people are getting involved,” said Mayor Kourianos.

Price City would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
