The USU Extension Office – Emery County is looking forward to upcoming classes that will be offered to residents. Castle County Radio was able to sit down with Rowe Zwahlen to talk about the courses that are coming up next year.

A course for farmers and ranchers that are maybe looking at retiring may want to sit in on this upcoming meeting. “It will be a workshop; we’re holding it the end of January the 25th and 26th and it’s for farmers and ranchers who are thinking about retiring. So that could be a happy conversation, maybe, but really starting to ask those questions about what am I going to do with everything when I do retire. Do I live it to my kids? Do I sell-out? What to do with land, equipment, livestock and what are the tax implications of all of that. So I think it will be a really good program and really get you to think about those hard questions,” said Zwahlen. For the time being the workshop will be an in-person workshop. Further information and details about this workshop can be found by calling the USU Extension Office at (435) 381-3535.

Crop school is planned for the new year and it will be offered virtually so that numerous topics can be covered. “This year we are switching to a virtual format. So, in some ways that’s going to be good, we’re going to have a little more time to deal with some more topics. So it will be starting on January 12, it will be every Tuesday night for five weeks, that is 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm,” explained Zwahlen. The first course will be on alfalfa, then the following week will be corn. There is sure to be something appealing to many farmers and ranchers. Again, crop school course will be offered via Zoom meetings.
