sheriff-weekly-update

Each week the Carbon County Sheriff calls into Castle Country Radio to talk about various topics pertaining to our area. In looking at the upcoming weather forecast our area is supposed to get some big snowstorms over the weekend and Sheriff Jeff Wood would like community members to be prepared.

“There’s some big storms that are coming on Friday, Saturday and the first part of next week. I think we’re finally going to see winter here in good ol’ Carbon County. I just want to remind everybody, I noticed in my travels as I drive around, during this time of year the ordinances are for no vehicles to be parked on the street. The purpose for that is when you get those late-night snowfalls the snowplows can come out and clear the streets before everybody starts moving around,” said Sheriff Wood. Residents should be considerate of our local snowplow drivers so that they are able to do their work safely.

This upcoming storm is a good reminder for citizens to remove their snow around their homes in a responsible manner. “We haven’t got a lot of snow on the ground right now so this is a good storm that’s coming to make sure you also exaggerate where you put your pile. Put it further away than you think you need to just in the event that we get into a wet weather pattern, get snow every week through February and at the end of that time you’re going to be running out places to put it,” stated Sheriff Wood. If residents see a neighbor struggling to remove their snow, be a good neighbor and lend a helping hand. Property owners need to remember that their sidewalks should be cleared within 24-hours of a snowstorm to allow for safe passage of pedestrians.

“We don’t’ have a lot of snow up in our backcountry right now. I think these next storms are going to produce that. Just know what you see here and what you see there, generally are two different things. It is a lot colder. Even if you get out of town, just up in the airport or up in the cedars, you know its colder up there than its is down here. So just be prepared,” said Wood. If you are headed to the backcountry be sure to let family/friends know where you will be and when you plan to return. The Carbon County Search and Rescue team are always a call away. Remember they will rescue individuals but not vehicles that are stuck.
