The Green River boys basketball team has had a strange season to say the least. The season began with a December 4 loss to Manilla, during the Manilla Holiday Classic. Then in February came the quarantine for two weeks, and then on February 25 at the opening round of the 1A State Championship Tournament the Pirates season would end at the hands of the Milford Tigers 61-53.

Up and down would hardly describe Green River’s season. At the outset they wouldn’t have a region as teams they normally play against opted to not have a season. One of the games they look forward to every year,  the match-ups with Pinnacle, were both wiped out due to quarantine issues with both squads. The January 25 match-up against Grand was the last game they would play until February 19 when they faced off with Tintic was the only game they had before tournament play began.

Their opening round game against the Milford started out very close. The Pirates would take a 30-27 lead in to the locker room at halftime. In the third quarter the Pirates would only score six points, but were still in striking distance at 38-36, however,  the Tigers would close out the fourth and claim the victory to advance.

Corbyn Dalton scored 16 points for the Tigers in the win. Kyden Peters added 15 and Treyton Rose 14.

For the Pirates Rad Hughes brought his spectacular senior season to an end with 21 points leading all scorers, in fact his 28.7 ppg lead all scorers in the state across all classifications. Alex Mendez dropped 16 and Payton Romero added nine.

The Pirates will look to next season now as they will lose six seniors to graduation. Hopefully next season will be smooth sailing for the Pirates.
