Carbon High School Athletic Director and girl’s basketball Head Coach Ted Bianco will step down from both positions after serving over two-decades in the athletics department.

“It’s never easy to say you’re going to step away from something you love to do,” said Bianco Thursday on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports. “I’ve had a great ride of coaching girl’s and boy’s basketball over the years.”

Bianco, who also had a stint as the head coach of the Carbon boy’s program, has accepted the Athletic Director position at Juan Diego High School. He will continue his role as athletic director and teacher at Carbon for the remainder of the school year.

A mainstay at Carbon High School for well over 20 years, Bianco also served as an assistant coach at the College of Eastern Utah. His deep ties to athletics in the Castle Country area made the decision that much more difficult.

“When this position opened up at Juan Diego, it was something where I could retire and go earn a wage on top of that,” Bianco said. “It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I couldn’t pass that up. The hardest part was looking at my team and telling them this was my last game.”

Bianco accumulated a record of 175-68 overall in 10 seasons as head coach of the girl’s program. During that span the team went 74-22 in region play, winning four region championships and finishing as co-region champs twice.

Bianco led the Lady Dinos to the semifinals in his final season as head coach. Carbon, who suffered a loss to the eventual state champion Morgan Trojans, finished fourth overall at the 3A State Tournament.

“I just want to say thank you to everybody who has ever played or coached for us. You’ve all made a difference in my life and I hope I’ve made a difference in yours,” Bianco said. “To my coaching staffs, I hope you’ve had a great time working with me. I’ve learned as much from you as anyone I’ve ever worked with.”

Carbon High School will look to fill the head coaching vacancy immediately. The job is expected to open early next week. The athletic director job will be posted and filled at a later date.
