The Carbon County Sheriff weekly update was all about this year’s upcoming Carbon County Search and Rescue Demolition Derby. Sheriff Jeff Wood joined Castle Country Radio over the telephone to talk about all the details.

“I am super excited we’re going to have a demolition derby this year and I’m so excited about that. Now its going to be August 14, we had originally planned on doing it on the 7th but that conflicts with the stock car racing schedule out at the Desert Thunder and we didn’t want to split the crowd for either one of the events,” stated Sheriff Wood. The event will be held at the Carbon County Fairgrounds at 450 South Fairgrounds Way in Price. This is the perfect outdoor venue to host the event as there is ample seating and parking.

Committee Members will soon be gathering together to iron out all the details of this year’s event. “So the committee is starting to meet. We’ll have the rules out there if you want to build a car. See the folks at Tire King that’s where we’re going to do the signups for the derby this year and we’ll have the rules out as soon as we get them finalized. I think we have a basic set ready to go right now if you just want to get started but we will have them finalized and ready to go in the next weeks to come,” explained Sheriff Wood. Tire King is located at 535 East Main Street in Price. They will be the headquarters for any and all demolition derby registration and questions.

This annual derby is a fundraising event for the Carbon County Search and Rescue Team. “It’s a major funding project for the Search and Rescue for the year. Everything we get is money like that its either donated or fundraised. They’re not a county or they don’t have a county budget, taxpayer dollars doesn’t go to Search and Rescue but Search and Rescue does such a huge service for our community,” said Sheriff Wood. Members of the Search and Rescue team are on a volunteer basis and donate their personal time to aid people who are in distress or imminent danger. The team relies on the proceeds each year that are made from the derby to contribute towards their expenses.
