The USU Extension Office of Emery County took time to come into Castle Country Radio to talk about upcoming webinars both in-person and online and preparing for the annual livestock show this summer.

The USU Extension Office has some upcoming classes that many folks may be interested in attending. “We’ve got a couple of gardening classes that we’re planning. They’ll be outside so I think everybody can spread out and be safe but we will be doing those in person. We’ve got one on turf so we’ll be talking about how to keep your lawn looking great, even though it is going to be a dry year. Then we’ve got one coming up the first part of June that will be talking about sprinkling systems. So how to put one together, how to repair your sprinkling system, that one will actually be in Green River,” explained Extension Assistant Professor, Rowe Zwahlen. The class will actually learn everything there is to know about sprinkling systems as USU Extension Office is installing an entire system at the local community center in Green River.

As our area is facing a drought this year it is important to understand how your sprinkling system works. “Yea, trying to keep everything monitored and also making sure that your sprinkling system is working well. So if you ever have any questions we also can help do a water audit, you know figuring out how efficient your sprinkling system is and just how long you might be needing to run it at a time,” stated Zwahlen. If you are in need of a water audit, get in contact with the USU Extension Office at (435) 381-3535 or stop by their location at 75 East Main Street, Room 114 in Castle Dale.

If you every wondered about landscaping designs for your yard you will have the opportunity to attend an online course about the subject. “This one I’m excited about, it should be up on our website in May, it is Landscape Design. So if you’re great at gardening but you don’t know where to put things, this is the course for you. To kind of figure out where that tree needs to go or how to make my paths look great or really just how to organize things so your garden functions,” said Zwahlen. More details about the Landscape Design class can be found on the USU Extension Office website at https://extension.usu.edu/emery/

If you have a student participating in the upcoming Junior Livestock Show in July there are some important dates to keep in mind. “The people that are going to be doing goats there will be a weigh-in on May 8 that will be in Huntington at the rodeo grounds. You can bring your goat there and make sure you are all registered set to go for the stock show in July. Then we also have a Showmanship Clinic that will be May 22, that’s a Saturday and that will be in the indoor arena in Castle Dale,” said Zwahlen.
