This week’s Carbon School District updates shine a spotlight on Castle Heights Elementary. Principal Wendy Fluckey took the time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss how the year has gone now that we are nearing the end of the school year.

“You know things have really been great, it’s been nice having a normal school year, minus wearing the masks, which have kind of become our new normal. But it really has been a smooth, running school year and there truly is an appreciation on both parents, students and teachers for being able to just attend school and be here in the building,” stated Principal Fluckey. It was last year that the school had to finish up the school year by distance/online learning due to the COVID pandemic.

Like most of the schools in the district, Castle Heights is conducting end-of-the-year testing. “We are just starting into our RISE testing and our end of the year testing which we will be completing over the next three weeks. I am very positive in where our kids are going to perform. They have learned a lot, they’ve worked hard, and I think we’re going to be very comparable to where we’ve been in years past,” said Principal Fluckey. The school is encouraging parents to not let their students miss any school during the testing process.

The school participated in a service project to assist students in Africa. “So our classes with Mrs. Bryner and Mrs. Sorenson have run a fundraiser where they are raising funds for students in Mali Africa. For every $10.00 sent will educate a student for an entire year and the fundraiser ended up raising over $800.00 profit,” explained Principal Fluckey. The students who participated were excited and enjoyed helping those less fortunate.

There are several upcoming field trips that will be taking place next month for students to enjoy. “Several grade levels are planning field trips to Thanksgiving Pointe here in a couple of weeks and of course teachers will be sending home notes. We have a few that are planned to go up Nine Mile Canyon. We have another field trip planned to go up to Joe’s Valley, just tying it into Science,” said Principal Fluckey. The fourth-grade students will participate in the annual Fourth Grade Rendezvous put on by the district.
