JoAnn Lyman Carter, 78, passed away May 9th, 2021.

She was born in Chico, California on July 17, 1942, to Etta Mae Herrick and Royal (Curly) Lyman. She met a handsome sailor, Jerry Carter, at Lake Almanor and they married in Reno, Nevada on October 12, 1961.

Jerry and JoAnn owned and operated the Sky View Café and Garage in Spanish Fork Canyon for ten years from 1965-75. The business was successful, not just because they provided the best food and mechanic service around, but because of JoAnn and Jerry’s friendly, and often humorous, interactions with customers from far and wide. They moved to Castle Dale where JoAnn worked at the Hunter Plant for ten years and later at Wal-Mart for a few years.

JoAnn loved bowling with her league friends at the Country Lanes on Carbonville Road, but even more than the bowling, she especially enjoyed their lunches at the Balance Rock Eatery after their raucous time on the lanes. JoAnn always had a new book that she was reading and wanted to recommend. She had a special fondness for dogs and cats, and there was rarely a time in her life when she was without one. We feel certain the entire furry menagerie was overjoyed with yesterday’s reunion. Jerry and JoAnn spent much of their retirement years camping, fishing, and traveling.

There wasn’t much in life that JoAnn loved more than her “boys”—Jer, Rod, and Scott. She also eagerly anticipated the calls she would receive from her grandchildren each week.

Survived by her sons Rodney Huff (Diane) of Castle Dale and Scott Leon (VyLinda) of Ogden, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gagon, the nurses at Castleview Hospital, Rick Stockberger and the entire staff at Symbii Home Health and Hospice for taking such good care of JoAnn.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Deanna (Herk).
