Last year Ferron City had to down size the Peach Days Celebration due to the COVID pandemic. This year the city is looking forward to a regular celebration with all the normal activities. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Ferron City Mayor Adele Justice to talk about all the details.

“We are excited as we plan Peach Days this year. We are looking forward to going back to a similar schedule to what we had pre-COVID. We’ll be doing the horse races, and we’ll have our mud-bogs, we’re planning to have our normal dinner in the park which is always a free event for the citizens of Ferron,” said Mayor Justice. One change that officials are thinking of making is hosting their firework show at the beginning of the week, which would be on Labor Day. Plus, there was lots of positive feedback from residents after hosting the parade last year during the evening hours so officials are looking at continuing that again this year.

The city recently applied for some trail grants to possibly install a walkway from the city to Millsite. “This is looking at putting a trail, walking or biking trail from Center Street, Main Street in Ferron all the way to Millsite State Park and Millsite Golf Course. We also have plans in the works to make our fairgrounds our trail hub and eventually extend those trails on out to the desert and up on to the mountains for motorized ATV,” said Mayor Justice. The city has received lots of recognition from ATV groups so they are in the process of applying for a grant that would help them digitalized the trails to help get the word out about them.

“We just found out this past week we were awarded another grant from Utah Recreation and we’re going to use those funds to complete the project with building an Adventure Park. We’ll have boulders for kids to climb and just a fun area for families to recreate, and then there will be a nice picnic area and some kiosks that will direct people to our trails and show them where our trails are,” stated Mayor Justice. This will be a great addition to the city to bring in out of towners and local visitors.

The Millsite Golf Course operational so visitors are urged to come check out the facility. “We are up a running and we’re excited that we got people coming to golf. We hope this year will be good to us as it was last year. We had a really successful year last year so we’re hoping we can do that again this year,” said Mayor Justice. They are working hard on getting someone to open the snack bar this year so that they can accommodate golfers on the course.
