It’s all about the Heritage Days celebration and smart watering on this month’s Huntington City update and Castle Country Radio was able to get all the details from Mayor Leonard Norton.

“You know we’re getting ready for Spring and Memorial Day getting the cemetery ready to go.  We’re getting our Heritage Days situation all in line. We got our rodeo the weekend before the Fourth of July or Friday and Saturday. Then the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of July we’re going to have all of our celebration here in Huntington. We’ve got entertainment, we have booths, food court, games, fun for the kids. We got kind of everything that are normal. Then on the 3rd that night we’ll have our big firework celebration,” stated Mayor Norton. The rodeo will take place on June 25 and June 26 at the rodeo arena.

The majority of the celebration will take place on the football field at Canyon View Middle School. “Pretty much the whole celebration will be there. We have a stage set up for all our bands, we’ll have our food trucks and vendors over there. Just to spread out a little bit with the COVID thing. Yea, we know it’s kind of winding down but we still want to have a little area so people can spread out and practice a little social distancing and give us a little more room. But everything will be at the middle school,” explained Mayor Norton. Charlie Jenkins will be the live entertainment before the amazing firework show on Saturday night. More details of all the events and activities will be shared closer to Heritage Days.

We are facing a drought this year and like most people in the state Huntington City is asking residents to water-smart over the summer months. “We’re encouraging are citizens to be smart when they water. We try to tell them not to water between 9:00 am and 7:00 pm of the day, just because that’s kind of the heat of the day, use smart watering. We don’t have hard restrictions just yet, but if it gets down to it we might have to put some hard restrictions on but we just encourage everybody to use common sense when watering,” stated Mayor Norton.
