The Lady Spartans lost their first game of the post season in their opening game on Thursday morning dropping into the one-loss bracket. Emery had no room for error the rest of the tournament and played like it in the last two games of the day beating Delta and Juab. Friday morning they found out the they would face the Grand Red Devils. Emery and Grand split their season series with each team winning at home. Friday’s game was all Grand as they defeated Emery ending their season 7-1.

Below is a recap of  Thursday and Friday’s games:

Delta- Win- 13-3 in six innings

The Spartans had faced Delta once already this season back in March taking an 11-0 victory. This game started out quietly for both teams. Emery would put one run on the board in the second inning. In the third, Taleigh Price came up to the plate with two aboard and brought everyone home. They added three more runs before Delta answered with three of their own in the top of the fifth.

Emery answered back with three runs of their own on hits from Madisyn Childs and Bralin Wilde and in the final frame they added a couple more as Arilyn Allred would reach on an error that allowed Shyanne Jensen to score and end the game in six innings.

Wilde, Price and Jensen all added two hits to the Spartan total of 11. Price also collected three RBIs.

The duo of Aspen Taylor and Childs would get the job done on the mound for Emery. Taylor started the game going four innings striking out eight and giving up one hit. Childs entered in the fifth going the rest of the way and getting the victory, striking out five.

Juab- Win- 2-1

In the second game of the afternoon the Spartans squared off with the No.9 Juab Wasps. Back in April the two teams met up at a tournament in Payson, the Spartans claimed the victory on that occasion 16-9. The game on Thursday would not be as high scoring, but was still a great one for those that love pitching and defense.

Juab would strike first putting up one run in the second inning. Pushing their way through the next four innings Emery would finally put runs on the board in the form of a Price two run home run taking the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth.

It was all about the lady on the mound for the Spartans. Cambrie Jensen earned the complete game one run victory giving up seven hits and relying on the team in the field behind her to take care of the rest.

Offensively the Spartans had a total of five hits with Price collecting two hits, two RBIs and scoring one.

Grand- Loss- 7-1

The Lady Spartans entered the game against the Grand Red Devils knowing that the next loss would end the season for them. The Red Devils jumped out to an early lead that Emery couldn’t recover from, ending their playoff run with a 7-1 loss.

Grand would put up six runs in the first two innings and turn on their defense. The Spartans couldn’t find an answer for the Red Devil’s pitching, although Emery did collect eight hits in the contest they were only able to put one run on the board, which is a testament to Grand’s defensive team mentality.

Price and Johnson both collected two hits each and Shyanne Jensen snagged a hit and an RBI.

On the mound the Spartans would throw two pitchers at Grand. Cambrie Jensen started, going two innings giving up six runs, five earned striking out two. Aspen Taylor went four giving up one earned and struck out six.

Emery ends the season 18-11-1 with a record of 7-3 in region play.
