Starting last Wednesday the Helper Merchants hosted seven other teams from around the state for the CJ Smuin Memorial Tournament that wrapped up on Saturday evening. The Merchants ended the weekend 4-0 pushing their season record to 10-0.

Over four days teams battled back and forth the first three days and then on Saturday the teams were seeded by their wins and losses and faced off one last time. The tournament had two divisions: the Red which included Alta, American Leadership, Helper and Stansbury and the Black with teams from Hurricane, Salem Hills, Tooele and Union.

Helper started play on Wednesday night against American Leadership Academy.  On a perfect night for baseball Helper would take the 8-0 victory behind an inside the park home run from the bat of Derek Robison to left-center.

On Thursday evening the Merchants would face the Alta Hawks, taking the 10-0 victory. Kade Dimick pitched a one hit gem and the defense behind him was strong as they put the Hawks away in six innings.

The next evening would bring another outstanding pitching performance, this time by Jordan Fossat, who no-hit the Stansbury team in five innings 10-0 on Friday. The win would put Helper in the No. 1 spot in the red division going into the final day of games.

In the final game of the tournament Saturday, the Merchants faced the No. 1 seed from the Black division in Salem Hills. It was the closest game Helper would play all weekend, coming up with the victory 2-1. Wyatt Falk was on the mound and allowed just two hits in the win.

Pitching came up big for Helper as they ended the weekend a perfect 4-0.  Four members of the squad, Kade Dimick, Jordan Fossat, Wyatt Falk and Brayton Nielsen made the all-tournament team. It was a great weekend of baseball in Helper as all the teams came together for a great cause.

The Merchants are back on the field and on the road Monday as they travel to face Springville.

They will be back home and under the lights this Wednesday the 16 as the face Payson at 8 p.m..
