The Wellington Pioneer Days celebration is coming up on Friday, July 23 and Saturday, July 24 at the city park. Wellington City Recorder, Gracie Steele stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.

“This year’s theme for Pioneer Days is A Great Place to Hang Your Hat. Friday night, July 23 at 7:00 pm is the Wellington Round-up Rodeo. If you have any questions, please call 435-650-9820,” stated Steele. The rodeo will be held at the Wellington Rodeo Area. The cost for admission is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 7 to 12, and kids under 6 years old are free.

On Saturday all the fun will be held at the city park on Main Street. “We have the booth and the vendors all throughout the morning. Then later in the afternoon, we have Jefferson Montoya, who’s actually a local from Carbon County originally, and now he lives in American Fork, Utah. He’s performing at the park so come listen to some live music,” stated Steele. Guest are urged to bring their lawn chairs/blankets to sit on. There will be plenty of activities inside the park for families to enjoy throughout the afternoon.

There is going to be a change to how the annual parade is held which usually takes place on Saturday morning. “It’s a little different this year the parade is at 5:00 pm inside the park. It’s just a walking parade and the theme is A Great Place to Hang Your Hat, so there are prizes for the most unique, exotic, and creative hat,” explained Steele. So guests are urged to wear a hat that fits this criteria for the contest. There will also be a horseshoe tournament taking place on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm.

The evening will finish up with a free dinner by Cowboy Kitchen. “At 6:00 pm we have a free dinner to the first 400 people provided by the Cowboy Kitchen. They are having pulled pork sandwiches and their famous cowboy beans,” said Steele.
