The Utah Foster Care agency will be hosting an Ask A Foster Parent Forum on Wednesday, September 22 at 7:00 pm at their office located at 475 West Price River Drive. The event will focus on the care of teens who are in need of foster care in our area.

“People don’t think about fostering teens as much and I think you know that’s a lot of reasons out there, there’s a lot of myths of how hard teens can be but on the other hand you know you don’t have to change diapers with a teen, teens can help you fix your electronics,” stated Prettyman. The setting is a great opportunity for guests who have considered to foster to speak with local foster parents about the rewards and challenges of caring for teens they have fostered in their homes

The forum is strictly an informational gathering for any interested families. “Well they always ask for the requirements and those kinds of things and those things we will go over in the Ask A Foster Parent night but they are pretty basic and they can find that information on our website as well. But you know what it’s like, they ask what things can they do, can they get teens involved. We have programs to help financially we want them to have the kids involved in things and get them to attend sports or different things that might help the kids. So basically, we want them to be able to treat them like their own children and provide them with opportunities that they would kids in their own home,” said Prettyman. Foster care can be a rewarding experience for all parties involved.

“So it’ll be at 7:00 pm on the 22nd and we’re going to be downstairs in the Workforce Service, DCFS, Vocational Rehab Building. So we’ll be downstairs, there will be signs along the way to show them what room to go to. If they go down the main staircase at the front of the building, then they’ll be able to find us,” stated Utah Foster Care Lead Consultant, Kobi Prettyman. Interested families who plan to attend are asked to arrive on time because there will be a zoom meeting portion shared at the gathering that will start promptly at 7:00 pm.
