The Ferron Stake is excited to be hosting an Emergency Preparedness and Provident Living Expo on Saturday, September 18 at 9:00 am till 12:30 pm at the Ferron Stake Center at 555 South 440 West in Ferron.

“We felt there was a real need in our community to have these educational classes and people are able to participate and see what’s out there. Mainly resources that are available to them and helping them to be more prepared,” said Event Coordinator, Emily Nielson. This free event will feature live demonstrations, taster’s table, free samples, booth presentations and many workshops.

The event will kick off with a keynote speaker at 9:00 am. “That’s Ken McCrady from Be Ready Utah Agency, he’s coming from Salt Lake City. His topic will be Family Disaster Plans and the agency does this throughout the state trying to help citizens be prepared more or less and his presentation will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am,” said Nielson. After the keynote speaker there will be three breakout sessions that individuals can choose to attend. The breakout sessions will be on food storage, emergency kits, water filtration and sanitation, canning, first aid, financial preparedness and that just to name a few of the classes.

“We’re going to have the Ferron City Fire truck there and some emergency vehicles that the kids can tour. Then afterwards we’re going to end it at 12:00 pm with lunch sponsored by Castleview Hospital and also the youth are going to have a Dutch oven cook-off,” said Nielson. Individuals will be able to enjoy samples from the cook-off.
