On Wednesday the Carbon cross country team hosted over 11 schools from around the state at an invitational meet at the Carbon Country Club Golf Course.  Union took the top spot on the boys side and for the girls it was the Lady Dinos who finished in first.

Cross country has been competing since August 14 and still have two meets on the schedule before the Region 12 Championship at Canyon View on Oct. 20. Both teams, boys and girls have fared well up to this point in the season and we’re looking to show off on their home course.

Beverly Lancaster was the top finisher for Carbon, coming in second with a time of 19:22.6, just eight seconds behind Payson’s Autumn Huntington, who crossed the finish at 19:14.4. Behind Lancaster, Grand’s Cadance Casprick, Jaylee Jenkins of Union and Mari Briggs of North Sanpete rounded out the top five.

This was the second top finish for the Lady Dinos this season, back on Sept. 3 they finished in first place at the Canyon View Invitational in Cedar City.  After Carbon, Payson, North Sanpete, Grand County and Manti filled out the top five spots.

Ambree Jones finished in sixth with a time of 20:15.0, Sophie Taylor took seventh. Ada Bradford (19) and Mariah George (22) were also top finishers for Carbon.

Kobe Cruz led the boys team finishing in fourth place overall, turning in a time of 16:07.2, just five seconds behind Richfield’s Richard Crane who earned a first place finish with 16:02.0. Union’s Paul Squire and Jett Davenport claimed second and third followed by Cruz and Payson’s Caden Rasmussen in fifth.

Overall, Carbon finished in the middle of the top five behind Union and Richfield but ahead of Manti and fifth place Emery.

Rounding out the top five for the Dinos, Pierce Bryner finished in 11th place with a time of 16:53.1. Braxton Ware crossed in the No. 18 spot and Garrett Black (21) and Nathan Engar (25) complete the top spots for the Dinos.

Both Dinos teams will be back at it on Sept. 29 when they will travel to North Sanpete and then the following Wednesday Oct. 6, they will wrap up the regular season at Emery.
