Sixteen Emery High School student-athletes have been recognized for their excellence in the classroom during the 2021 fall season with a selection to the Academic All-State team in their respective sport by the Utah High School Activities Association and the Deseret News.

The 23-1 Lady Spartan volleyball squad had the most of any sport with five members making the list. Brynlei Luke, Brynn Gordon, Hallie Winn, Madisyn Childs and Tambrie Tuttle all received honors. Emery will be on the road for the final game of the regular season on Tuesday in Price when they face the Carbon Dinos. They will begin their playoff run on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Up next was soccer with four players chosen. Elli Whitesel, Saylor Jackson, Taija Olsen and Tylee Norton excelled both on the field and in the classroom. The Lady Spartans soccer team ended the season last Saturday with a first round loss to Delta.

Cross country had three members. For the boys Byron Christiansen and Jess Christiansen and on the girls side it was Kadrianne Bird earning a spot. The cross country season will  continue next week with the Region 12 Championships at Canyon View.

Emery tennis players Ambria Migliori and Paige Cox both claimed the honor.  The tennis season came to an end last weekend with the state competition taking place.

Trevin Wakefield represented the Emery golf team as one of just 15 golfers in 3A to make the list. Wakefield tied for 27th in the 3A State Championship Tournament last week with the Spartans finishing the year in 8th.

On the football field it was Dallin Jorgensen who would represent one of 10 players in the classification to achieve the honor. The Spartans will be on the field Friday night when they face Summit Academy. The state playoffs will begin next week.

For over 25 years the UHSAA has presented the Academic All-State Award to recognize those students who have excelled in the classroom as well as in athletic competition. Individuals are selected for this award on the basis of their athletic ability and academic proficiency.
