peer-support-fundraiser-2

There will be a Peer Support Fundraiser held on Wednesday, October 20 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Price City Fire Station on 87 North 200 East. This is a jail/bail style fundraiser to help our local First Responders in the area. Price City Police Sergeant TJ Robertson stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about all the details of the event.

“The Peer Support here is the southeastern part of the state is to provide all First Responders within the region the opportunity to receive emotional and tangible support through times of personal or professional crisis. Also, help anticipate and address any potential difficulties that they may be having in their lives in general,” said Sgt. Robertson. Generally, a peer support program is developed for each agency but because of our location the local peer support program assists many law enforcement/EMS agencies. Those agencies that benefit from the program are Carbon and Emery County Sheriff’s Office, Carbon County Ambulance Service, Helper, Price, Wellington, East Carbon Police Departments, Price Communications, Adult Probation & Parole and Utah Highway Patrol.

“So we’re trained in the art of peer support which is basically talking to our people that we work with, our fellow peers and we’re not therapists we leave that up to the professionals, but first responders, in general, have a hard time asking for help and this team allows us as peers to be able to provide support from within,” stated Sgt. Robertson. Those that are part of the Peer Support team have to go through training and its continuous training so that they are able to assist their peers that may be in crisis.

The Peer Support team is facilitated through the Price City Police Department with several members of the team from the various law enforcement/EMS agencies. They are extremely excited to be hosting this Peer Support Fundraiser on October 20 to help the program earn funds for training. “Peer Supporters or First Responders locked up in cells, we’ve given them an hour time slot starting at 8:00 am and ending at 5:00 pm. We have 24 spots throughout the day and we’re just asking for the community’s support financially to come by and bail our First Responders out of the cells, so to speak,” stated Sgt. Robertson. This is a jail and bail style fundraiser were the funds go directly to the Peer Support Program’s training expenditures.

If you are unable to attend the Peer Support Fundraiser but would like to make a monetary donation towards the cause please stop by the Price City Police Department at 910 North 700 East to make that donation.
