peer-support-fundraiser-2

The Second Annual Peer Support Fundraiser will be taking place on Wednesday, October 20 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Price City Fire Station on 87 North 200 East. The event is a jail/bail style fundraiser where many local first responders will be participating. Price City Police Sergeant Shawn Sackett stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about all the details of the event.

“Well, there will be officers who will be put into a jail cell and they’ll have to get bailed out and that’s where the money that we’re hoping are good citizens in our community will come together and that’s how we’re going to raise the money to get them out of jail,” said Sgt. Sackett. This event is open to all members of the community who would like to make a monetary donation towards the cause. Individuals can stop by the event anytime to help those officers with bail money.

The Peer Support Program is developed to assist all first responders who may be in need during a personal or professional crisis. “It’s hard when we go to work and we’re out there, we’re ready to help and be there for everybody else and sometimes a lot of people forget to look at themselves and make sure they are mentally well and dealing with all the other stuff that we see and deal with so it can be hard for first responders and all their aspects,” said Sgt. Sackett. First responders need support, care and compassion to succeed in their positions so that they can serve the community.

This is jail/bail style fundraiser will use the funds earned to help with Peer Support training and other expenditures. “So we have training that help Peer Support Members to learn how to be a Peer Support Member. We also have them go to training to help make sure we understand our resources and a lot of the money that we are using is going to train people for that to train other people to get resources here,” stated Sgt. Sackett. Those agencies that benefit from the program are Carbon and Emery County Sheriff’s Office, Carbon County Ambulance Service, Helper, Price, Wellington, East Carbon Police Departments, Price Communications, Adult Probation & Parole and Utah Highway Patrol.

If you are unable to participate in the Peer Support Fundraiser but would like to make a monetary donation towards the cause please stop by the Price City Police Department at 910 North 700 East to make that donation.
