All four matches were decided by six points or less and were very competitive. Carbon took the win in the first set by a score of 26-24. Set number two saw the Dinos finish off the Wasps 25-20. Juab came back taking the next set 25-23 and the final set saw the biggest margin of victory when Carbon closed out the match 25-19.

Up next is a meeting in Duchesne to face the Eagles.

August 24- Duchesne- Win 3-0

The Carbon volleyball team finished last season in fourth place in 3A after the State Championship Tournament. They faced Juab last week taking a 3-1 victory and followed that up with a trip to Duchesne on Tuesday, taking the win in straight sets.

Carbon took the win in the first set by a score of 26-24. Set number two saw the Dinos finish off the Wasps 25-20. Juab came back taking the next set 25-23 and the final set saw the biggest margin of victory when Carbon closed out the match 25-19.

The matches with Duchesne were more of a straight forward affair with Carbon winning in three sets. The Eagles were outmatched, and the Dinos would win 25-11, 25-16 and 25-18.

Carbon will now head on the road to St. George for the Dixie Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Their first match is set to begin at 6:30 and they will face Pine View, a 4A school from the St. George area.

August 27-28 St. George Tournament- 6-0 Record

The Lady Dino volleyball team traveled to St. George over the weekend playing six games in two days. Going into the weekend with an unblemished record the Dinos returned home sporting an 8-0 record and are preparing themselves for the region portion of their schedule.

With wins at the beginning of the season against Juab and Duchesne, the Dinos headed south to take on competition from that portion of the state.

Below is a short recap of all the games played:

August 27- Pine View – Win 3-1

Pine View is out of St. George playing in Region 10 in the 4A classification.  Last year the two teams faced off with one another with an almost identical result, a 3-0 Carbon victory.

This year went four sets with Carbon still coming out on top 3-1.

The first set was close with Carbon taking the win 25-23. In the second set Carbon put a bit more distance between themselves and Pine View coming up with the 25-17 victory. Pine View stormed back in set three 25-23 and Carbon would close out the match 25-18 grabbing their first win of the weekend three sets to one.

August 27 – Millard – Win 3-1

Some times people feel that teams from smaller schools are a lower level of competition. Millard, a school from Fillmore that plays in 2A, gave Carbon all they wanted pushing them to four sets.

In set number one Carbon put forth a dominant performance winning 25-12, but that just woke them up as Millard came fighting back in the second set claiming a 27-26 win. The final two sets were close as well with the Dinos finishing them off 25-18 and 25-23.

August 27 – Spanish Fork – Win 3-1

In this match it was Carbon’s turn to jump up two classes when they faced the Dons of Spanish Fork.

Augusst 31- Union – Loss 3-1

Carbon Dino volleyball has been enjoying an eight game win streak since the beginning of the season back on August 14. Last night they were handed their first loss of the season by the 3A defending champion Union Cougars, 3-1.

The Dinos are coming off of a part of their schedule where they played six games in seven days ending with the Union match -up.

The Cougars were first to strike taking set number one 25-13. Carbon came back in the second to tie up the match at one set each winning 25-17, but that would be the end of it for the Dinos as Union grabbed the final two 25-19 and 25-16.

Lyndee Mower collected 26 digs and 12 kills for Carbon. Sydney Orth and Madi Orth both had nine kills and Janzie Jensen and Bennett Peterson both added 10 digs. Peterson also led the Dinos with 19 assists in the loss.

“No one likes to go and lose, and these girls that I’ve been coaching for the past couple months, they are fighters, and they obviously don’t like to lose. We learned some valuable lessons by that loss last night, I think we’ve got a new refocus, we’ve got some things, when you get your backs against the wall you expose some of the areas that you need to improve on, so I think that’s good for us to refocus. You know last night’s game, it always hurts to lose but we really need to beat them in October, that’s when it really counts”, said Carbon head coach Teresa Mower on Wednesday’s Drive Time Sports.

The Dinos will wait and see where they land on the Utah High School Activities Association’s initial RPI rankings that will be released on Sept. 11.

Carbon will face The Grand County Red Devils Thursday in Moab.

Next Thursday they welcome North Summit to Price. Game time will be 6:30.

September 2- Grand County- Win 3-1

The Carbon Dino volleyball team started their region schedule on the road on Friday in Moab to face the Grand County Red Devils. Carbon had made it through the early portion of their season with just one loss at the hands of the defending 3A State Champions, the Union Cougars. Facing Grand was not an easy task either taking four sets, but the Dinos walked away with the 3-1 win.

The Dinos were pushed to the brink in the first set losing 30-28, after that it was all Carbon, winning the next three sets 25-22, 25-19 and 25-17.

Madi Orth led Carbon with 19 kills in the contest, she would also gather 16 digs along with Benett Peterson who would also rack up 35 assists. Lyndee Mower collected 27 digs to go along with her 17 kills and Janzie Jensen added 21 digs and 10 kills.

Carbon will dive into the heart of their region schedule in the coming weeks as the season winds it’s way through September and into the first two weeks of October when they will begin tournament play.

The Dinos won’t be on the court again until Thursday, when they welcome the North Summit Braves, in a non-region contest, to the gym in Price. The Braves are a 2A team from Coalville, and the two teams have never faced off before. Game time is set for 6:30.

On Friday they will be on the road to take on the Canyon View Falcons in Cedar City.

September 9- North Summit- Win 3-1

Carbon volleyball has been making it’s way quietly through this season. Now sitting at 10-0, last night’s contest with the North Summit Braves was a good test for what is to come as they head into region play. The Braves pushed them to four sets, but when it was over the Dinos came away with the 3-1 win.

With just one region match under their belts, a 3-1 victory over Grand County, seven of the final 10 games on the schedule consist of conference competition.

North Summit is a 2A team from Coalville, but don’t let the classification fool you, they proved a tough opponent for the Dinos.

Getting to work, Carbon would come out and win the hard fought first set, 25-19. North Summit came back in the second to take a tight 25-23 victory. The final two sets were extremely close with Carbon coming out on top 25-21 and 25-22.

Carbon once again received great individual effort toward the team cause from Madi Orth, who turned in a 19 digs and 14 kills performance. Lyndee Mower added 18 digs and 11 kills and Janzie Jensen added 18 digs, 10 kills and 5 blocks.

The team has been compiling some pretty big number with several players in the top 10 in the state regardless of classification. Mower shows up on two different lists, No. 2 in digs with 223 and No. 8 in aces with 31. Madi Orth shows up on two lists as well No. 8 with 147 kills and No. 9 with 43 blocks. Blocks must be one of the Dinos favorite things with a total of three on the list, Jensen is at the No. 2 spot with 69 and Syndey Orth is No. 3 with 68.

The Dinos will be on the road Friday, looking to move to 11-1, as they face the Canyon View Falcons in Cedar City.

September 10- Canyon View- Win 3-1

On Friday the Carbon Dinos were in Cedar City to face the newest member of Region 12, the Canyon View Falcons. The Dinos are perfect in region play this season and after the meeting with the Falcons, they still were, taking the win in four sets, 3-1.

Carbon sits at 11-1 and 2-0 in region play with nine games left this season, three of which are against non-region teams, the Dinos will look to stay the course and protect their No. 2 ranking in the RPI poll that came out on Saturday.

In the match with the Falcons, Carbon dropped the first set 25-19, but then turned around and swept the next three sets 25-18,  25-22 and 25-14.

For the Dinos, Sydney Orth collected 15 kills and 13 digs. Madi Orth added 13 kills and 21 digs and Lyndee Mower had 17 digs to go along with four serving aces. Benett Peterson collected 21 assists in the win.

Carbon will enjoy a couple of home games this week against Richfield on Tuesday, and then will welcome North Sanpete to Price on Thursday. Both games are set to begin at 6:30.

Next week on Sept. 21, the Dinos will travel to Castle Dale for an important region tilt with No. 4 Emery.

September 14- Richfield- Win 3-0

The Dino volleyball team accomplished a couple of things Tuesday night at their home gym in Price. Carbon earned a region win over the Richfield Wildcats in straight sets moving their record to 12-1 and they now own the No. 1 spot in the RPI for 3A.

Carbon has been cruising ever since their only loss of the season to Union, winning the last three matches, and with only eight matches left in the regular season will be looking to protect that No. 1 ranking.

The Dinos faced the Wildcats with a serious sense of urgency. Winning set one 25-17 and then finishing up take sets two and three 25-19 and 25-16, Carbon made quick work of Richfield.

Lyndee Mower and Madi Orth led the way for the Dinos with Mower collecting 14 digs bringing her season total to 277 which puts her at No.1 in the state, she also added 9 kills. Orth had 12 kills moving her into the fourth spot with 185 and also added 11 digs. Benett Peterson came up with 17 assists in the victory.

If Carbon can keep stacking the wins up they will be in great position when the 3A State Championships begin in October. Sitting a N0. 2 in the initial standings after the win they hold the top spot as they will begin to play region competition.

Up next for the Dinos is non-league match with North Sanpete at home on Thursday at 6:30. They will then face Emery in Castle Dale on Tuesday. The Spartans have no matches scheduled for this week and currently hold the No. 4 spot.

September 16- North Sanpete- Win 3-1

Lady Dinos volleyball is riding high on a five game winning streak and are currently the No.1 3A team in the state. On Thursday night they hosted the North Sanpete Hawks, and it may have taken four sets but the Dinos came away with a 3-1 victory.

Sitting at 13-1, Carbon has made their way through their schedule and so far have only lost one match to Union. Playing across different classifications in the beginning of the season, the Dinos have just seven games left on the schedule that include two non-region games.

Carbon let the first set just slip through their fingers 25-18. Refocused the Dinos would win the final three sets 25-18, 25-19 and 25-20.

The Dinos have been playing a great team game, and it shows in their stat lines. Madi Orth added 25 digs to her total of 198, a number that lands her at No. 5 in the state. She also had 25 digs. Lyndee Mower added 22 more digs to her No. 1 spot bringing her to 299, Mower also sits at No. 5 with 44 services aces. Every game for Carbon seems like a block party with three Dinos in the top 10: Madi Orth at No. 5 with 62, Sydney Orth No. 2 with 103 and Janzie Jensen No. 1 with 105.

The Dinos will take the weekend off to prepare for a big one on Tuesday, in Castle Dale against the Spartans. Game time is set for 6:30.

Emery is 14-0 on the season and No.4 in the RPI. And have not lost a set since August 27 when they beat North Summit 3-2.

After the contest against Emery, the Dinos will play another road game at Grand County on Thursday.

September 21- Emery- Loss 3-0

On Wednesday night in Castle Dale the No.4 Emery Spartan volleyball team welcomed in the No. 1 Carbon Dinos. The two teams faced each other for the first time on the court all season. The Dinos seemed out of sorts and even though every set was a battle, at the end the Spartans handed the Dinos their second loss of the season in straight sets.

The Spartans came out to do battle and in the first set it went back and forth just like you thought this match would, but at the end Emery took the 25-23 victory.

Set number two was all Emery early, pushing the score to 20-13 at one point. The Dinos turned it on and pushed back getting the score as close as 23-20 and the Spartans put the brakes on the Carbon rally adding two more points and taking set two by a score of 25-23.

In the final set, the Spartans seemed to be on cruise control putting up a 16-13 score at one point, but Carbon would not go quietly pushing the score to 24-21. Tambrie Tuttle would bury one deep in the corner on Carbon’s side and seal the Spartan win.

The Spartans moved up the RPI to take the No. 3 position with just five games left on the schedule. Tomorrow they will be on the road in Moab to take on the Grand County Red Devils. This is the first time all season that they have played each other. Emery will be back on their home floor again next Tuesday to face the Richfield Wildcats.

After the match Carbon would fall to 13-2 on the season and retained the No. 1 ranking in the RPI, but their lead over the Spartans is just 0.007708. Carbon still has six games on their schedule until the end of the regular season when they will once again face the Spartans in Price. The next home match for the Dinos is on Friday when they meet American Heritage in a non-region match.

September 24- American Heritage- Win 3-0

Carbon welcomed American Heritage to town on Friday night for a non-region match-up. The Lady Dinos are coming of a loss to the Emery Spartans on Tuesday night and were looking to rebound, winning in straight sets.

Carbon came out and claimed victory in the first set 25-18. They would go on to win the final sets by the same score 25-14 and 25-14.

Up next is a meeting with the Grand Red Devils at home on Tuesday.

September 28- Grand County- Win 3-0

Tuesday night the Carbon volleyball team welcomed region opponent the Grand County Red Devils to Price. This would be the second time the two teams would meet this season, going back to the first meeting on September 2 the Dinos took the win 3-1. This match wouldn’t last quite as long with Carbon taking the straight set win.

Even though Carbon took the win every match was highly contested. Carbon earned victory in set one and two with the identical score of 25-23. The final set went to the Dinos 25-19.

September 30- Manti- Win 3-2

It took five sets but the Carbon Lady Dinos extending their winning streak to three with a thrilling victory over the Manti Templars Thursday evening in Price.

Stepping out of region play the Lady Dinos earned a 25-19 win the first set of the evening. Manti answered with a 19-25 win in the second, but Carbon again took control with a 25-21 win in the third. The pesky Templars refused to quit, forcing the decisive fifth game with a 26-24 win.

The extra set was all Carbon needed to close the door as they took control and never looked back in with a 15-9 victory.

Thursday’s win moves the Lady Dinos to 16-2 overall on the season, while keeping Carbon in the No. 2 spot in the UHSAA RPI.

It will be a rare three game week for Carbon. Tuesday the Lady Dinos defeated Grand in straight sets at home to move to 4-1 in Region 12 play. The team will receive one night off before returning to the court on Saturday against Canyon View.

Only three region games remain on the schedule for Carbon. Following Saturday’s tilt, the team will travel for a non-region tournament. The final two games will take place Oct. 12 and 19 against Richfield and Emery.

October 2- Canyon View- Win 3-0

Last Saturday, the Dinos welcomed the Canyon View Falcons to Price. Back on Sept. 10 Carbon traveled to Cedar City and defeated the Falcons 3-1. The venue didn’t matter because the result was the same, a Dino win this time in straight sets.

Holding a 17-2 record and the No. 2 spot in the RPI, Carbon is headed into the final three matches of the regular season, but first they needed to get past the Falcons.

After being pushed to five sets by Manti on Thursday, the Dinos made quick work of Canyon View taking the first set 25-15. The second and third were just as quick going 25-16 and 25-13.

Carbon heads out on the road for a tournament Friday and Saturday in Richfield. Their first match will be against South Summit, a team from Region 13 out of Kamas.

The two teams met up on a couple of occasions last season with the Dinos taking the first meeting 3-0. The second meeting maybe cause for some revenge as South Summit defeated the Dinos in the 3A State Championship Tournament last year in the third and fourth place match.

After the tournament this weekend things will slow down until the end of the regular season for the Dinos with just two games scheduled for the last two weeks.

Tuesday the 12 will be the last regular season road game against Richfield. Carbon defeated them on Sept. 14 in straight sets.

The Dinos will end the season looking to avenge their loss to the Emery Spartans on Oct.19 in Price on Senior Night. Carbon fell to the Spartans on Sept. 21 in Castle Dale.

October 8-9 Richfield Tournament-  3-2 Record

The Lady Dinos are in the home stretch of the regular season with just two games left. Last weekend they traveled to Richfield for a tournament at the Sevier Valley Center. Facing teams from the 1A to 4A classes, the Dinos went 3-2 over the two days.

In their first match of the tournament Carbon faced the North Sevier Wolves from Salina playing in the 2A class. The Wolves sit in the No.11 spot and have an 11-15 record. Carbon finished off North Sevier in two straight sets 25-10 and 25-19.

Match number two was a meeting with the South Summit Wildcats No. 5 in the 3A RPI. Carbon would get pushed to the limit in this one taking the first set 26-24 and coming back and taking set number two 25-16.

Crimson Cliffs is a 4A school out of Washington, holding the No. 3 spot. Carbon would come out looking to end the first day with another win however, Crimson Cliffs handed the Dinos their first loss of the tournament in straight sets 25-17 and 25-15.

On Saturday, the Dinos faced the Panguitch Bobcats. The Bobcats are the No. 2 team in the RPI for 1A. The Bobcats would push Carbon to five sets with the Dinos taking a 3-2 win.  Carbon came out taking set one 25-15 and set two 25-13. The Bobcats came back in set three taking the 25-22 win and then claiming set four 25-19. Carbon took the fifth and deciding set 15-3.

They will then be home next Tuesday when the welcome the Emery Spartans on what will be Senior Night.

October 12- Richfield- Loss 3-1

With just two games to go in the regular season the Lady Dinos traveled to Richfield on Tuesday to face the Wildcats. Carbon was coming off a weekend where they had dropped two matches to Crimson Hills. Taking on Richfield this was one that the Dinos would let get away from them and fall to the Wildcats 3-1.

Carbon struggled in the first two sets with Richfield taking both 25-20 and 25-21. Set number three the Dinos were able to turn things around and take the 25-19 win. The Wildcats claimed set four 25-14 and claimed the victory over Carbon.

Carbon is now sitting at 20-5 overall and 5-2 in Region 12 play. The RPI has been removed from viewing until Oct. 20 when the 3A State Championship Tournament bracket will be revealed giving us a clear picture of the playoffs that will begin on Oct. 23.

Where Carbon will be when the final standings come out is anyone’s guess. They occupied the No. 2 spot behind Emery. The good news for the Dinos is their final match of the regular season is against the Spartans, who should still be on top of the rankings after their win over Grand on Tuesday.

The Lady Dinos and the Lady Spartans will face off on Tuesday on Senior Night at Carbon. The game is set to begin at 6:30.

October 19- Emery- Loss 3-1

On Wednesday morning the Utah High School Activities Association released the final rankings and the bracket for the 3A State Championship Tournament. Emery claim the No. 1 spot overall and Carbon landed in the No. 3 position, which means both of them will be back on the floor on Wednesday the 27th at Utah Valley University.

Emery will face the winner of Canyon View and Providence Hall. The Spartans haven’t faced Providence Hall this season, but did face Canyon View twice since both teams are in Region 12, splitting both contest Canyon View was the only team to put a loss on Emery this season.

Carbon will await the winner of the 14/19 match-up either Richfield or Grantsville. The Dinos didn’t face Grantsville, but are in the same region as Richfield and split the season series with them.

October 27- Semifinals and Consolation Rounds 3A State Championships

Richfield- Loss- 3-2

Manti- Win 3-0

The Lady Dinos  opened up state tournament play Wednesday at Utah Valley University. It was definitely an up and down day for Carbon after suffering a five set loss to the Richfield Wildcats  in their opening game which dropped them into the consolation bracket. The Dinos then would bounce back with a win against the Manti Templars advancing to the next round.

With the loss to Richfield the best that Carbon can now finish is sixth place. The match with Richfield was a dog fight, in fact in their final meeting of the regular season the Wildcats got the best of the Dinos 3-1.

This meeting with Richfield started with the Wildcats taking the first set 25-22. Carbon battled back in sets two and three 28-26 and 25-18. Richfield would regroup and take the final sets 25 -20 and 15-4.

The loss dropped them down into the lower part of the bracket where they faced the Manti Templars. On September 2 these two team faced each other with Carbon coming out on top 3-2.

In this match, the Dinos got down to business early winning in straight sets 25-21, 25-21 and 25-13.
