Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Mayor Lenise Peterman to talk about the happenings taking place in Helper. She came in to discuss the T-Mobile Grant, Utah’s Christmas Town events and funding for the river restoration project.

“We’re excited about the T-Mobile money and we’re actually going to leverage that and look for some matching grants to continue the good work on Main Street. But the light poles have come down, they are going to be powder coated and have new tops put on them that are Dark Skies compliant and we’ll implement four new lights, in the traffic commerce on Main Street,” stated Mayor Peterman. Residents should see the new light poles that will enhance the city’s Main Street set up in the next few weeks or so.

Helper is gearing up for their annual Utah’s Christmas Town events. “So Mark Montoya, Brenda Deeter, they are awesome at creating a great holiday environment in Helper. I give them a huge shout out for continuing the tradition. So it’s thirty-plus years and it will start next weekend like you said with the Craft Fair up in the auditorium and it will just keep rolling from there,” said Mayor Peterman. The lights on ceremony will be held on November 26 at 6:00 pm at the Rio Theatre. Residents interested in this year’s schedule of events can visit the Utah Christmas Town Facebook page.

There will be a concert event taking place on December 18 at 7:00 pm at the Rio Theatre. “We’re thrilled to have this Christmas concert; it’ll just continue the festivities from the Light Parade and going forward.  It will be really incredible, talented players, orchestra, singers so we’re just thrilled to have this opportunity to share this experience with the community,” said Mayor Peterman. Tickets may be purchased on https://www.eventbrite.com/ pre-sale tickets are $12.00 per person and will be available at the door for $15.00.

The city received another grant to assist them with the river restoration project. “We were fortunate to capture about $135,000.00 for river restoration work. This is really, I can not give thanks to Jordan Nielsen anymore than I can, he’s just been a great resource and connects us to funders such as the resource of the Legacy Fund and others who believe in the project so we are thrilled to capture those dollars,” stated Mayor Peterman. Over the winter and spring, more work will begin on the river restoration project.
