Larry Douglas Wood (ElWood), 65, peacefully returned to his loving Father in Heaven on November 23, 2021.

Larry was born to Joseph and Donella Wood on November 12, 1956 in Dragerton, Utah. He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Larry loved his family and his community with all his heart and leaves behind a lifelong legacy of service to both. He was always drawn to helping people. He was an Army veteran, served on mine rescue, was a black belt and taught karate, scuba diver, served as a scoutmaster for over three decades, East Carbon City Council member, volunteer firefighter, and advanced EMT for the East Carbon Ambulance. He was truly a “jack of all trades” and master of many.

Larry was a second-generation coal miner and worked in the mines most of his adult life as a diesel mechanic. After retiring from coal mining, he worked for East Carbon City as a maintenance worker and operated the water treatment plant. He loved being a volunteer firefighter and found one of his life’s callings as an advanced EMT on the East Carbon Ambulance Service. He always reveled in the camaraderie of his work environments. He was always good for a story or antic from work to entertain family and friends for hours. Countless nights were spent around the campfire where he would have everyone laughing to tears.

Larry loved the outdoors and somehow always made time to take his family camping, fishing, riding ATVs, and shooting. Many a child caught their first fish with him at Grassy Lake where he spent nearly every summer. He followed his passion in everything he did—from restoring old muscle cars to finding exciting new places to eat on his travels. He loved to travel and was the master of road trips by car or motorcycle. He poured his heart and soul into his 1969 Camaro and spent thousands of hours restoring it.

Larry was a family man to his core. He was the epitome of what a husband, father, and grandfather should be. As a father, he taught his children by example with his work ethic and service to those in need. He often came home from a long shift working in the coal mines and would use his precious time off to fix cars for people and help with countless home repairs in the community. He went to great lengths to be there for his children and grandchildren and loved to recount family stories and sing silly songs. Larry maintained family traditions and kept everyone in close contact. He loved taking his wife, Elaine, on trips around the world and was dedicated to helping her renovate their home into her dream home.

Larry is survived by his wife, Elaine Cozzens Wood; his children: Jason Larry and (Lana) Wood, Dustin Ray Wood and Derek Blake Wood; nine grandchildren: Michael Childs, Kelsey Childs, Cameron Wood, Lexie Wood, Dylan Bates-Wood, Evie Bates-Wood, Violet Wood, Konan Wood, and Khloe Wood; his siblings: Duane (Connie) Wood, and Michelle (Mike) Lovell, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Donella Adams Wood; and his brothers, Darrell Wood, Donald Wood and Terry Wood.
