USU Eastern Gallery East is excited to be hosting a new exhibit entitle Utah Women Making History. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Associate Professor, Noel A. Carmack to discuss all the details about the show.

“There mostly watercolors, she does use what is called gwash, which is essentially watercolor with a little bit of white added to it. What that does to the watercolor is it renders it opaque and so the colors you’ll see are very vibrant colored paintings of each of the women depicted and there’s a lot of detail in each of them,” said Carmack. The exhibit includes Utah artist Brooke Smart’s illustrations of Utah women who worked throughout the 20th century to advocate for women and advance their communities.

The exhibit will incorporate a bit of Utah history during the show to share with guests. “So each one of these women depicted, there’s a little caption card that goes with them, and that caption card gives a little history behind or little biographical history behind each of the women depicted in the illustrations,” explained Carmack. This show began on January 11 and will run through till January 28. This will take place in Gallery East which is located inside the CIB building on the campus of USU Eastern. It is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The next exhibit that is coming up will feature courtroom drawings. “The fourth coming exhibit is a series of drawings by Scott Snow who was a courtroom artist for the Salt Lake Tribune for many years during the 70s and 80s. So he covered a lot of the major cases including the Mark Hoffman trials, the Singer/Swap trial and quite a few of the major cases in Utah,” stated Carmack. Further details of the exhibit will come at a later date but it should begin early part of February.
