Coming off of a loss to Snow College on Thursday, the USU Eastern Eagles men’s team traveled up north on Saturday to face the No.1 ranked Salt Lake Community College Bruins. The Eagles had their opportunities in the second half but the Bruins were just too much and came away with the 80-63 win.

The Bruins are a perfect 22-0 and sit atop the Division 1 standings in the National Junior College Athletic Association nationally. The last regular season game they lost was in March of last year when they fell to Snow College at home 90-76. The Bruins are being led in scoring this season by  6-foot eight-inch freshman wingman Doctor Bradley, who is scoring just under 15 points per game.

Salt Lake jumped out early and never let the Eagles get the lead, scoring 39 in the first half and holding USU Eastern to just 25. The Bruins took advantage of Eastern’s 25 turnovers turning them into 28 points.

Coming out in the second half the Bruins kept up the defensive intensity putting another 41 up and collecting their second win this season over the Eagles.

USU Eastern’s Payton Falslev led all scorers with 14 points, Falslev leads the Eagles in scoring this season with 16 ppg. Kevin Bethel added 12, grabbed three rebounds and dished out four assists and Isaac Castagnetto scored 10 in the loss.

USU Eastern has a 14-7 overall record and is 6-5 in league play. The Eagles have seven games left on their schedule until tournament time rolls around on Feb. 24.

The Eagles will go back out on the road Thursday as they travel to Ephraim to take on Snow College. Snow is currently 15-4  and 4-2 in conference play, they also sit in the No. 19 spot in the NJCAA poll.
