The Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) posts the Rating Percentage Index (RPI) daily on their website for most high school activities. These numbers are then used in the state championship tournaments to seed the teams for the playoffs.

The RPI is a mathematical equation that ranks teams by the strength of their schedule and is based on three different parameters: the teams winning percentage , their opponents winning percentage and their opponents opponents winning percentage.  The equation gives each team a percentage and then those numbers are used to rank each team throughout the season. With the playoffs coming up in February teams can get an idea as to whom they may be playing when the time comes.

Piute continues to sit at the top of the 1A rankings with a 15-1 record. Tabiona, Panguitch, Monument Valley and Wayne round out the top five.

The Lady Pirates of Green River jumped up to the No.18 spot moving their record to 2-12. They dropped their contest with Wayne last Tuesday and then turned around and won against Monticello (No. 21) on Wednesday 42-30. This week, they don’t play till Saturday when they welcome Monument Valley, game time is set for 1:30 p.m..

Pinnacle also moved a spot to No. 21 this week with a 4-12 record. With losses last week against Grand County and Monument Valley this week, Pinnacle will welcome Monticello on Tuesday night and Monument Valley on Friday night, both games are set to begin at 5:30.

From last week to this week the top five in 3A didn’t change. Richfield still holds the No.1 position followed by Judge Memorial, Grantsville, Emery and Layton Christian Academy.

Emery has just one game this week and it’s a big one, Richfield. This will be the last time that these two teams will meet in the regular season. Emery sits at 14-4 and 3-1 in region play, Richfield has a perfect region record at 4-0 and 16-2 overall. Game time is set for 7 in the Spartan Center on Thursday night.

The Dinos jumped up one spot to No. 8 in the ranks after taking a loss to Richfield on the road last Thursday. Carbon has two games this week: a non-region tilt with Real Salt Lake Academy Thursday night in Price, tip-off is set for 6:00, and a road game on Saturday in Cedar City against No. 12 Canyon View.
