Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Ferron City Council Member Gerry Stotler who spoke about water conservation and upcoming city events that will take place over the summer.

Like many towns in the Castle Country area water conservation for the summer is on everyone’s mind as Stotler explains, “It’s coming off the mountain really, really, well. The dam is starting to fill up but I’ve taken a walk out there on the golf course and have gone over the bridge from one side to the other, that they just have above what use to be our waterfall; they had to protect that part, I understand, but they built this huge lear, that I can’t foresee that we’re ever going to have a waterfall again, but who knows.” The dam is filling up very well from the winter run off but will probably only fill the dam up to 75-80 percent of its capacity.

Ferron City was very pleased with how residents helped to conserve water last year and hope that those same efforts will be applied again this year. “The water that we drink, and the water that we irrigate everything with is all the same water, its just whether its treated or not. I don’t think some people realize that when they are watering all their shrubbery, and everything else constantly, you know it cuts down on the water that is available to treat for us to drink, which is more important,” said Stotler. The water is also very important for local ranchers and farmers in the area.

Ferron City is a town full of fun activities and events that will be coming up this summer. “We have the junior livestock show that will be coming up the end of June, beginning of July – actually there’s going to be two different ones. Then of course Peach Days towards the end of summer. But we have four-wheelers to rent, ATVs to rent, you can go up on Ferron Mountain, you can go out on Dutch Flat and go out to the desert that way. Ferron is kind of a hub,” stated Stotler. Townsfolk are looking forward to hosting these events so that visitors can come visit their quaint little town.
