Its time once again to sit down with Mayor Danny VanWagoner to catch up on what is taking place in Castle Dale City. He was eager to talk about the Bright Ideas Youth Entrepreneur program and water conservation.

The annual Bright Ideas Youth Entrepreneur program is kicking off on June 1 with the Beginner Boot Camp. “Our Bright Ideas has really took on a life of its own. We have a Beginner Boot Camp on June 1 and this is for youth ages 8 to 18. June 2 is the Advanced Boot Camp, and then on June 8 there will be a workshop. We issue these kids business licenses, we help with logo design, branding, advertising, customer service, business plans, the whole works,” stated Mayor VanWagoner. The program will host a Business Pitch Review aka Shark Tank Challenge where the students will present their business plans to a panel of judges for a chance to win $1,000.00 in prizes. If anyone is interested or has any questions about the Bright Ideas Youth Entrepreneur program may contact the Emery County Chamber at (435) 749-9025.

Temperatures are warming up and many residents are beginning to work in their yards and gardens. “Last year without any restrictions put on, other than watering twice a week, we asked our citizens, can you tighten up your belts? There was without any kind of major restrictions was able to tighten up 30 percent from what we normally use because we track this water. We’re just hoping for that same pride and help from everybody that we can get through this,” said Mayor VanWagoner. The city knows that the residents will make an effort to conserve water again this summer.

Some homeowners have gone as far as redoing their yards/landscape to accommodate the drought like conditions. “There’s several citizens here in Castle Dale that are actually doing away with their lawns and working on zeroscape which plants will put out some shade but still not let it heat up so much and use a lot less water and I really appreciate that effort because when you go up there and look at those lakes, Joe’s Valley in particular, it’s a long way from even hitting the boat ramp,” explained Mayor VanWagoner.
