The Division of Wildlife Resources will be hosting a Women’s Shooting Sports Clinic on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4 in Blanding. The event is free with only a few spots available for female participants over the age of 12 years old. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Conservation Outreach Manager, Aaron Bott to discuss all the details.

“We definitely want that beginner to feel very comfortable so you don’t have to have any shooting experience at all this is a friendly environment. So if you have no experience, please sign-up. If you do have a lot of experience, I still think that you can walk away with a lot, so come on out,” explained Bott. This is a great opportunity for women who are beginners at shooting, as well as, for those who want to take their shooting abilities to the next level

This event is designed to give women a supportive, encouraging and comfortable atmosphere where they can learn more about handling firearms and improve their shooting skills. “This is something that we’re really excited about. We’ve got some of our division personnel who are women that will be there teaching the course and we also have some Conversation Officers there to answer any questions and so it’s a great thing,” said Bott. Participation is limited to the first 30 people so registration is required due to limited seating and can be done online at https://www.eventbrite.com/

The clinic will start with a classroom portion held at Utah State University Blanding Campus at 576 West 200 South in Blanding. “They’re going to cover rifles, shotguns, and handguns – so the basics. We’re focusing primarily on shooting sports, so we’re hoping to introduce people to these firearms help them be comfortable, give them some experience, and how they can safely operate them. Hopefully, we’re going to entice some of them to start hunting as well, that will kind of be our overall objective,” stated Bott. On Saturday it will be hands on instruction as the class will be held at the local gun range. Organizers asked that participants do not bring their own personal firearms because the DWR will provide all the materials and equipment needed for the clinic.
