The Emery County 4-H Showcase is set to take place on August 6 and they are looking for items to showcase. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with new 4-H Director, Cassie Thatcher to discuss all the details.

Thatcher is no stranger to the 4-H program as she herself has been involved for many years. “I’ve been involved in 4-H my whole life, since I was about 5 years old and so we’re looking at 35 plus years in 4-H,” stated Thatcher. She was excited to apply and receive the director position with the Emery County Extension Office.

She has seen the program change over the years from being just agriculture to now expanding to other programs. “4-H has a project for every youth that wants to be involved. We have everything from STEM, to we still do traditional cooking, sewing, agriculture, livestock.  But we do a lot more things now, computers, STEM, technology,” explained Thatcher.

Part of being involved with the 4-H program is to highlight and share the many activities/projects the youth have done throughout the year. “So we’re going to have our 4-H Showcase on August 6 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm you can drop off your 4-H exhibits. So where there is no county fair in Emery County this year, this is a chance where 4-H youth can qualify their exhibits to compete at the state fair level and come and show the public what they’ve been working on throughout the last year,” said Thatcher. Individuals will be judged on their items, then from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm the public is welcomed to come visit the exhibits.

In September there will be open registration to the 4-H program with a membership discount being offered. “So for anybody that wants to enroll in 4-H we’re offering a half-price discount coming up for September. Enrollment will only be $5.00 instead of the $10.00, so anyone that wants to re-enroll, re-enrollment starts September 1. So any projects that have taken place from September 1 to current will be exhibited,” said Thatcher.
