It’s time to sign up for Carbon County 4-H Programs for the entire school year and registration is currently taking place. Castle Country Radio sat down with DeLayna Barr to discuss all the details.

The 4-H Programs are open to kids 5 to 18 years of age and the youngest children can sign up for the Cloverbuds program. “Kindergarten through second grade and it’s really just a great program to get their foot in the door of 4-H. Parents are involved with helping teach each club and fun curriculums, discovery for these little kids, it’s a perfect way to start off their 4-H career,” stated Barr. Registration for Cloverbuds will begin on September 1 and you will do so online at https://4h.zsuite.org/

There is a Discover Club that is open to third, fourth and fifth graders. “This is really a fun club that we’ve ran for a few years and it’s also parent-ran. We will have a parent meeting for parents to come and I can teach you all about it, let you know about the resources, but its really ran by parents. Some fun things that we have done before in this club is like paper mâché, fishing, letter boxing, melty beads, robotics, candle making, so all these clubs,” stated Barr. The parent meeting will take place on Thursday, September 15 at 1:00 pm or 4:00 pm at the USU Extension Classroom. The clubs will begin on October 13 with two sessions at 3:30 pm and 5:00 pm.

New this year is the Explorer Club for grades sixth through eighth and they will meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month beginning in October. “This club is brand new this year, we’ve always had a sixth-grade club but we decided to open up to a larger age group. Because this is a fun age that can do more, we can do more in robotics, or take hikes. We’re giving them longer time for the club so we can do anything from making lamps, to string art, anything that these kids want to do and their parents will come to help,” said Barr. Parent involvement is the foundation of this club and the cost for the entire year is $55.00 which covers all the planned projects.

The organization will be hosting a 4-H Family Fun Achievement Night on Thursday, September 22 at 6:00 pm at the Carbon County Event Center. “This is a fun night that we invite all the family to come and we review what we’ve done. We have a fun slide show of all the kids and their projects, and we play games, we bring out some STEM activities, and have dinner. This is a great time for those who are curious about 4-H to come and join us and see what we do,” explained Barr. Interested families are urged to RSVP for this event by calling the USU Extension office at (435) 636-3233.
