Our dear mother, Sharyn Burgess Hughes, passed away peacefully at her home in Orangeville, Utah on August 12, 2022 at the age of 77 after a valiant fight with Parkinson’s Disease.

Sharyn was born on April 10, 1945, in American Fork, Utah to Ross and Erma Burgess. She was the second of four children. She loved education and sports. She was a talented musician and loved playing the violin, piano, harmonica, and guitar.

On December 15, 1967, she married Arthur Lavell Hughes in the Salt Lake City Temple. They have five children (four of whom are still living), 22 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Sharyn supported her children and grandchildren in all their pursuits. As much as she was able, she attended their concerts, sporting events, graduations, and other activities.

She was an elementary school teacher for almost 40 years. She began her teaching career in Kearns, Utah but spent most of her time as a teacher at Book Cliff Elementary in Green River, Utah. She loved children and touched many lives, leaving a lasting impression on them.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was passionate about family history work. Sharyn was very involved in the community and cared deeply about others. She loved to serve and help those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Erma Burgess, and her daughter Paula Lee Madsen. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Hughes, her three siblings, and her children Suzette (Wayne) Roberts, Thomas (Shlisa) Hughes, John (Allisha) Hughes, and Coralie (Clint) Seright.

Special thanks to Sandy, Mandi, Tiana, Dr Cam Williams, Dr Glen Etzel, and the staff at Emery County Care and Rehab for their tender and loving care of Sharyn in her last months of life.
