The 2022 Emery Spartan football season is officially underway as the Spartans traveled to Nephi to take on the Juab Wasps.

Things however, would sway Juab’s way from the very beginning. Juab jumped to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter and tacked on another 21 before halftime to go into the locker room with a 49-0 halftime lead over the Spartans.

To start the third quarter, Juab would kick a field goal to grab a 52-0 lead before Emery finally got on the scoreboard after a two-yard touchdown run right before the end of the third period.

At the beginning of the final quarter, Juab would add their final touchdown to make it 59-7 with nine minutes left in the game. Junior quarterback Wade Stilson would connect with fellow junior Creek Sharp on a 45-yard touchdown pass. The final score ended 59-14 in favor of the Wasps.

Wade Stilson finished the game with 12 completions on 22 attempts. He had 124 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions for Emery.

Dane Sitterud was the leading Spartan rusher after posting 14 yards on six rushes. Matt Olsen also had two carries for nine yards while a wide variety of other Spartans got touches from the backfield.

Creek Sharp led the Emery receivers with two catches for 55 yards and a touchdown. Tregg Miller and Boston Huntington were the only other receivers to tally more than one reception.

Next week, the Emery Spartans will stay on the road as they will travel to Mt. Pleasant, Utah to take on the North Sanpete Hawks in a rematch of a game played in Castle Dale last season.

North Sanpete won last year’s match up 27-0, but started this season with a 44-14 loss to Payson.

Emery and North Sanpete will kick off at 7:00 pm on Friday, Aug. 19. The pregame show will begin at 6:30 live from Mt. Pleasant.
